Inspiration

Jess

July 15, 2017

Sometimes I have the luck to come a cross a woman who I just strongly admire and feel inspired by. Jess is one of those. I call it girl crush.

She’s oozing of coolness, has a great style, is smart and funny. And we have so much in common, she’s about to open up a hotel and project with her boyfriend. We talked a lot about the struggle and the enjoyment of working with your partner. She also comes from the marketing field. Is extremly creative and she runs Kinsfolk with her sister, a brand I’ve been eyeing out for many years up at PR Store in Colombo.

To do in Sri Lanka

Road trip to Arugam Bay

July 9, 2017

Janey asked me months ago if I wanted to join her on a surf trip. She wanted to get together a group of girls who lived here on Sri Lanka and either go to Maldives or somewhere on the island. Last week we finally got off.

Six girls, two cars, six surf boards and the beautiful coast around Arugam Bay to explore.

We set off this past Tuesday and I had just gotten back to Sri Lanka after two weeks in Europe. To be honest I hoped I might be able to come up with an excuse not to join.. After living out of a suitcase and being social for the two past weeks a 5 day trip with some people I didn’t know wasn’t really high on my list.

I’m not the most sociable person, I find it hard to make new friends here on Sri Lanka because I haven’t been having the energy or time it takes to get to know new people. I can be a real introvert at times. But I think the main problem is that when I finally have time off I rather sleep infront of Netflix or clean the house instead of being out socializing. I feel like the most boring person ever.

But this trip turned out to be  just what I needed.

Thanks Janey, Kerri, Jo, Jenna and Jess for an amazing time. For some fun surf sessions, even though I really struggled, because I’m not in the best surf shape, it felt so good to be back in the water. The girls also let me ditch some sessions just to stay on the beach and reeead. No pressure to join in on everything, I love that. I read two whole books. Listened to music and just relaxed. Felt so good.

Maybe Too Personal

hi

June 9, 2017

Hi, it’s been a while. And what a fucking time it’s been. Maybe the worst time in my life. It’s been hectic. It’s been nasty, it made me loose faith in humans but it also made me realize the importance of friends. I don’t wanna dive deeper into it today with respect to all people involved but we had an event that really turned everything we worked so hard for upside down. It was extremely though for everyone involved. We were so lucky to have amazing people supporting this trough it all and I’m so grateful.

*taking a deep breath*

I’ve been hard on my self, but I need to realize I’m only human. Being 26 years old, moving to a new country, opening up two businesses, employ 45 persons, feed 9 dogs, battle an immune disease it ain’t fucking easy. It’s not a walk on the beach.

But we’re getting there. My goal is more walks on the beach. More dips in the ocean. More kisses in the sunset. More talks with friends. More quality to life.

To do in Sri Lanka

the secret garden

December 18, 2016

We visited Geoffrey Bawas life’s work Lunuganga Estate the other day. Nestled on a peninsula close to Bentota but with the feeling of the middle of nowhere lays this 25-acre piece of art. It took him 40 years to finish it and now it is in many ways run down but it gives a mystic glow and feeling. It was our first time there but definitely not the last. I loved the vibe.

Bawa had made different set ups all over the gardens and he had breakfast at one spot, lunch at another and G&T’s in the sunset at another. Talk about garden goals..

Do you see that hedge? Under it lays a road. It’s a public road so he wasn’t allowed to remove it. Instead he dug it down and covered it in green. To get to the other side of the garden you have to walk past a small bridge that’s located in this cute house:

I haven’t written more here than that we signed some papers some weeks ago.. We still haven’t launched anything so I can’t say too much but it will be a whole new concept! We’re days away from our first big due date hence the lack of blog posts. I hate blogs that’s never updated. I mean what’s the point?

But I also have zero time. Or wait, I used to hate when people said that: “I don’t have time”.Because it’s really quite silly. Because we have time, we all have the same amount of time. And it’s only ourself that can decide what we want to do with it. So if I want to blog I have to make time for it!

In the mean time here’s the blogs I usually check when I have take my time:

Rest & Digest with Nik Robson

October 18, 2016

Even though I am running a Sunday-Sunday surf & yoga retreat 365 days a year over at www.sunshinestories.com , I was really eager to join Nik Robson‘s weekend retreat that he organized together with Prana Lounge Colombo. The theme was Rest & Digest and that’s exactly what we did for three days. A days juice cleanse, plenty of yin and vinyasa, meditation, kombucha workshop and a fantastic group of people. So giving to spend time with total random people who felt like close friends when the weekend was over. We were sharing each others fears and hopes.

The weekend retreat was just what I needed just when I needed it. My new friend Hen (who runs Kikili house and also is THE wedding celebrant on Sri Lanka) gave me a lift home to Ahangama. Even though it was amazing to be off on my own it felt so good coming home to my love Petter, our dogs, my brother and all of our Sunshinestories family.

we said yes

October 10, 2016

No, we haven’t sneaked off to get married. But we signed papers for our new concept.. WAH!!! Can’t wait to tell you more, but it’s all very exciting and I’m equally stoked to my bones as terrified. Must be a good thing, right?

This means we will have a shit load to do this season too.. BUT, I will take time to relax in the chaos, that I promise my self here and now.

Maybe Too Personal

Lately

September 20, 2016

Been having busy days with some exciting meetings. I know we said we would take it slow this season but sometimes a opportunity falls in to your lap that you really can’t resist.. I try to test it with “would I regret it if I didn’t do this?”. In this case it’s a clear yes, I would regret not trying this opportunity out. Can hopefully tell you what it’s all about next week!

This week we’re having the cool kids Corine and Matt as guests at Sunshinestories. And I was in  the water surfing for the first time in five (!!) months! Only got one wave, but man it felt good to be back! I’m in a super bad shape, but motivated to start training and surfing again. Since I got back to Sri Lanka I’ve been doing yin yoga as much as possible. As soon my body feel drawn to the mat I pull it out and do whatever my body wants to. Mostly slow yin poses, and it’s ok. Slowly slowly.
